Semiconductors are at the heart of today’s global economy. They power digital transformation, artificial intelligence, energy transition, advanced manufacturing, defense, and mobility. As global supply chains are being reconfigured and competition for strategic investments intensifies, regions are no longer competing solely on costs or incentives – they are competing on ecosystems, trust, talent, and long-term vision.

For Invest in Pomerania, this reality defines our role as a regional Investment Promotion Agency. Our mission goes beyond attracting individual foreign direct investments. We focus on building sustainable economic foundations, supporting innovation-driven growth, creating high-quality jobs, and shaping an environment that benefits investors, employees, businesses, and, ultimately, the residents of our region.

In 2025, semiconductors became a central pillar of this mission.
It was a year in which we followed the global semiconductor ecosystem across continents – learning from leaders, building strategic relationships, and consistently positioning Pomerania as a credible and future-ready destination within the global value chain.

SEMI ISS Europe in Sopot – When the Industry Comes to Us

Hosting SEMI ISS Europe in Sopot marked a defining moment for Pomerania. This invitation-only symposium is one of the most exclusive and influential gatherings of semiconductor leaders in Europe, bringing together top executives, policymakers, and decision-makers shaping the future of the industry.

Bringing ISS Europe to our region was a strong signal that Pomerania is no longer just observing the semiconductor transformation – it is actively participating in it. For us as an IPA, hosting such an event meant direct access to strategic conversations, the ability to build relationships on home ground, and the opportunity to showcase the region’s ambition, readiness, and ecosystem potential.

Welcoming so many high-level stakeholders confirmed that Pomerania is being recognized as a region of the future. We are proud that SEMI ISS Europe will return to our region on March 11-13, 2026, further strengthening our position on Europe’s semiconductor map.

Taiwan – At the Core of the Global Semiconductor Ecosystem

Taiwan is the undisputed heart of the global semiconductor industry. With over 60% of global semiconductor manufacturing and more than 90% of the world’s most advanced logic chips, it plays a critical role in global supply chains. At the center of this ecosystem stands TSMC, supported by an unparalleled network of suppliers, equipment manufacturers, R&D institutions, and specialized service providers.

Our presence at SEMICON Taiwan was therefore not symbolic – it was strategic. For Invest in Pomerania, engaging with Taiwan’s ecosystem is essential to understanding how the most advanced semiconductor regions operate and what global investors expect from potential locations.

A key pillar of our activity was our strong cooperation with TAIPO (Taiwan-Poland Chamber of Commerce). This relationship enables structured dialogue, mutual understanding, and long-term cooperation between Taiwan and Pomerania. Meetings with local authorities, agencies, and industry organizations allowed us to deepen trust and position our region as a serious, knowledgeable partner for future collaboration.

Arizona – Industrial Scale, Speed, and Strategic Manufacturing

The United States has made semiconductors a strategic priority, and Arizona has emerged as one of its most important hubs. Massive investments, supported by federal policy and state-level coordination, are transforming the region into a global manufacturing powerhouse, with TSMC’s multi-billion-dollar fabs as a cornerstone.

During SEMICON West, we engaged with the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem and had the opportunity to visit the TSMC investment site, experiencing firsthand the scale, pace, and complexity of such projects. Observing how infrastructure, workforce development, supply chains, and public institutions align around a shared industrial vision provided invaluable insights.

For us as an IPA, Arizona serves as a powerful reference point, demonstrating how decisive action, long-term planning, and ecosystem-wide coordination can accelerate industrial development at scale.

Dresden and Silicon Saxony – Learning from Europe’s Semiconductor Leaders

Dresden and the Silicon Saxony cluster represent Europe’s most mature semiconductor ecosystem. Built over decades, it integrates global manufacturers, innovative SMEs, research institutions, and public authorities into a coherent and resilient structure.

Our study visit to Dresden was designed as a strategic learning mission. Together with representatives of the University of Gdańsk and Gdańsk University of Technology, as well as local governments and councillors linked to the planned industrial park in Wojanowo, we explored how leading regions manage land development, talent pipelines, and long-term cooperation with industry.

Meetings with representatives of the City of Dresden, the State of Saxony, and Silicon Saxony focused on governance models, spatial planning, and ecosystem management. Learning directly from Europe’s leaders reinforced our belief that building a semiconductor ecosystem is a long-term, multi-stakeholder effort – one that Pomerania is actively and consciously pursuing.

IMEC and CEA-Leti – Driving Innovation Through Research

IMEC and CEA-Leti are among the world’s leading semiconductor R&D institutions, shaping future technologies through applied research and close collaboration with industry. Participating in their events gave Invest in Pomerania valuable insights into how R&D excellence influences investment decisions, long-term industrial strategies, and the importance of trust and relationships in fostering lasting cooperation. The model of collaboration between science, industry, and public institutions observed at IMEC and CEA-Leti perfectly aligns with our ambition to develop Pomerania into a region that supports both manufacturing and innovation-driven investment projects.

PCIM Europe – Diversification Across the Value Chain

PCIM Europe focuses on power electronics – a critical segment supporting electrification, renewable energy, mobility, and industrial automation. While different in focus from logic or memory semiconductors, it remains an essential part of the broader ecosystem.

For us as an IPA, presence at PCIM underlines the importance of diversification. Engaging across different segments of the value chain ensures that Pomerania remains visible to a wide range of investors and partners, strengthening the resilience and versatility of the regional economy.

SEMICON Europa – A Milestone for Poland and Pomerania

The year concluded at the 50th anniversary edition of SEMICON Europa, marking a historic moment for the global semiconductor industry and a new chapter for Poland’s presence within it.

Together with partners, Invest in Pomerania organized the first-ever Polish Pavilion, alongside our own booth, which we also made available to companies from the region. We additionally hosted a session at the Executive Forum, highlighting Pomerania’s rapid growth, strategic partnerships, and ambition.

The session demonstrated how the region is building talent, infrastructure, and R&D capacity, and why Pomerania is well positioned to become a meaningful contributor to Europe’s semiconductor strategy and the global supply chain.

Looking Ahead

Chasing semiconductors across the globe in 2025 was not about attending events – it was about building foundations. Foundations based on knowledge, trust, partnerships, and long-term vision.

For Invest in Pomerania, this journey reaffirmed one belief: regions that invest in ecosystems and relationships today will shape the technologies of tomorrow.

And this is exactly the path we are on.
